Growing up in a Greek-Italian (ehhh, Sardinian) household taught me early on that there is no single "default" way to see the world. That dual-culture baseline, combined with my mother's infectious passion for linguistics, sparked a lifelong love for intercultural exchange. Today, my friendships span continents, while my scientific career has immersed me in distinct research cultures across Europe - a journey I detail in my professional experience. Navigating these varied environments has profoundly shaped how I operate. I’ve learned that the ability to comfortably shift viewpoints isn't just about cultural empathy; it’s the absolute foundation of true collaboration. To me, inclusion and diversity aren't just buzzwords. They are mechanisms that prevent echo chambers and drive the best cooperative problem-solving.
Because of this, my natural default is to act as a bridge. Culturally, that means finding the common frequency that makes diverse, multinational teams click. Scientifically, it means serving as the link between theoretical rigor and applied engineering. In the end, this is exactly how I view mathematics: not just as a set of tools, but as a shared language with a universal syntax that allows me to bridge gaps, cut through ambiguity, and build common ground with anyone, regardless of their background or discipline.
I am a strong advocate for life outside work. I believe that protecting our free time is indispensable for doing good science and being fulfilled people. I spend a lot of my free time crafting, mostly sewing. I love the physical process of turning raw materials into something useful and structured; for me, it is a great counterbalance to the abstraction of math. I also love intercultural exchanges, often sharing time and meals with my loved ones from all over the world. And since moving to the Netherlands, you can often find me on my bike, pedaling to discover whatever random, beautiful places the Dutch cycling paths lead me to.
